In a World of Judgement
America is a place full of opportunities, opportunities that may not be available to everyone across the world. Of course, those across the world would like to know they have the same chance at these opportunities just like any American would, that is, if only they actually could. Immigration is something America has dealt with for over a century, but not correctly. Deporting these immigrants would rid America of the problems caused by them, but Granting amnesty to undocumented immigrants not only does good for the people, but it benefits the country as a whole.
Immigrants are seen as a “threat” to American Society. A threat in such  way that doesn't necessarily jeopardize our safety, but rather a threat to the American culture. Different regions in various cities, such as Chicago, have whole towns designated to various cultures. Hispanic culture is one of them, and its normal to see a few store signs that are read in different languages rather than the preferred English language. In the quote, “Many Americans see foreigners moving into their towns, see signs in spanish, and fret about changes to the traditional fabric of society” the author describes the current situation many Americans face nowadays (Kristof 1). “Foreigners” are what they're called, but interestingly enough, unless you’re a “full blooded American Indian” as stated in Kristof’s article,  you too are considered an immigrant, and more specifically, a documented Immigrant.
The documentation of immigrants is obviously the main issue. Most of these people have already established a life in America with part time jobs and finding place to live, so they already are giving back to the country by providing work and paying to live and eat. Small opportunities like these are what immigrants come to America for and they shouldn't be punished for wanting a better life. It takes more money to go through the process of deporting these undocumented immigrants rather than granting them amnesty, which allows them to fully contribute to American society. As stated here, “they will contribute $45 billion over five years in payroll taxes to the United States economy” documenting these immigrants would only boost Americas economy (Kristof 2).
Along with boosting the economy, these immigrants can provide more than just that for the country. Considering they're from different parts of the world, they're able to bring their culture to America and provide diversity within American society. It shouldn't be seen as a threat, but more of a benefit and even an upgrade. Being open to different cultures and accepting other people's beliefs and way of being is what America is all about, and this should be embraced rather than pushed away with deportation.

  1. It' great that you explain how immigrants can bring change to our American society. The only problem is that you don't expand your field of view. You need to focus on other topics such as families being torn apart by immigration and much more. Your readers will think that the only change and immigrant will bring is from changing a sign from English to another language. Try to focus on how illegal aliens can really be beneficial. Your on the right track. You just need to add a few more topics in the background such as money, jobs, and politics.

  2. Yes, the United States should embrace and continue on to appreciate immigrants different backgrounds because it is one of the great things that make America great. Also, its refreshing to see that you acknowledge that undocumented immigrants already established a life in the United States because those are the immigrants we want to defend. Another great thing you pointed out is that it cost money to deport them as well, it would have been great if you posted some type of statistic on how much America spends on deportations. Also, you could have added a little more on the other perspective against it. Overall, many who support amnestying immigrants would agree with you.

  3. True, the United States should be in open arms to all kinds of cultures. However, the reason why many sections of Chicago, for example, have a different race is because people within their "border" don't want anything to do with another race's culture. You don't see Hispanics moving into Humboldt Park, majority African American, but decide to move to Pilsen or 26th street because vast majority of the people are Hispanics. It's easy to say America is all about culture diversity but Chicago is one of the most diverse yet dangerous cities to live in due to race wars. Incorporating Chicago, one of the most diverse cities, was a great idea. Maybe adding a part of Chicago where a lot of different races reside and showing how this section of Chicago proves how cultures can unite; thus, making your argument on the unification of diversity in American culture stronger.

  4. You're correct on stating that the United States should be more welcoming to immigrants of different cultures, but the United States is scared of change. So many Americans still have that old mentality that if someone is not like them they should not be accepted into the group of what is called "acceptable." The United States is a melting pot with various cultures, food, and people this is what makes our country a great place to live in. If America and it's citizens were all the same the world would be a boring place. A point in your essay that I want to state was really good was when you said that it cost money to deport people back to their country and if we deport all the immigrants we would waste tons of money that could be put for a good use.

  5. It is a shame that the most powerful country in the world sees immigrants trying to better their lives and their families' lives as a threat. America always seems to focus more on the negative side of things than the positive side of things. It is true that diversity in American society is a benefit. Gaining knowledge of our different lifestyles or traditions can help unite people from different parts of the world. For some reason it is seen as a threat because a part of America does not want to see change at all. They prefer to just eliminate anything that can influence change.

  6. America should try to see this more in a positive way other than thinking so negitive. America if simply just afraid of change. Every day an American citizen is complaining about illegal immigrates as if they are so harmful to America. You mentioned in your essay that illegal immigrants can provide more than just boosting out economy. That is definitely true. Good job in providing true statements.

  7. You were correct on how bringing amnesty to immigrants can bring Americans diversity. Not that it isnt a positive thing. However, you need to realize that we cant afford it. Bringing amnesty to these undocumented immigrants can put a financial burden to Americans. You need more counter arguments in this essay. Yet, your essay put up a great argument and provided many evidence.

  8. Your argument made a very persuasive essay that illustrated the negative views many Americans have towards change. The essay clearly shows us how all of these undocumented immigrants create communities of different cultures, which ultimately create jobs and tax revenue showed in your sources. Hence, at the end of the essay you rightfully assert that immigrants bring more positives than negatives to our country. On the contrary, you could have expanded on what would happen to future immigrants. Would we give them legal status or apply harsher laws?

  9. Your argument was first of all well said and well organized you provided both sides of the issue and you provided supporting evidence for both sides. including the facts about undocumented immigrants creating "towns" under that heritage" was great it helped your audience better understand and get a better perspective of the issue and what americans are afraid of.

  10. The diversity brought to this nation is immense. There is a variety of cultures and religions and ways of living, but many citizens see that as putting the nations safety in jeopardy. These citizens want to have the illegal immigrants assimilate into the american life style. Yet there is no clear way of showing the life style of a citizen because of the diversity. United States is known as the land of the free, because it was advertised as such.

  11. Illegal immigration is, as what you called it, "a threat to American society". Americans are terrified of foreigners settling in their neighborhoods and building off homes and families. Just to add to your argument, illegal immigrants have created these cultural towns because they have to support each other and flee from the racism that they might confront living among Americans who strongly refuse them. Illegal immigrants have found the need to gather around themselves and create a "safe heaven" where their cultures and traditions are punished or stepped over.
